Barry is Managing Director of Probity Consulting. He founded the company in 2001, and its subsidiary, Probotics, in 2016.
Barry has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand since 1986 and holds a BCom from Otago and an MBA from Victoria.
Barry’s career spans 40 years working for corporate and consulting organisations. He commenced his career with KPMG before moving to London where he worked for Swiss Banking Corporation and Morgan Stanley International, specialising in accounting and systems for Financial Markets operations. Returning to NZ in 1989 he spent several years with Westpac, holding the positions of Deputy Financial Controller and Senior Manager Information Management Systems. Barry branched into management consulting in 1995 and has specialised in the areas of innovation and the use of technology to address business issues for the past 22 years.
Most recently Barry has developed a service offering within the business to specifically deal with robotic process automation, and the business tools such as AI, machine learning and natural language processing that are rapidly forming what is being referred to as the 4th industrial revolution.
Barry is an experienced project leader and works effectively with Boards, Executive and key stakeholders. Barry leverages his knowledge and experience to assist the consulting team, which may comprise both client and Probity staff, to deliver the best outcome for the client. His role is to challenge assumptions and ensure the robustness of the recommendations. He also plays a key role in project communications and stakeholder management.
Barry has worked on a wide variety of assignments. These have ranged from assisting organisations with developing information systems, strategic plans and project management through to managing change projects and mergers and acquisitions. Many of the assignments Barry has worked on have drawn on skills acquired in accessing the functional requirements of an organisation’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) application. These projects have required detailed analysis of an organisation’s business processes and reporting requirements, together with the application of best practice. Barry has directly managed or had significant involvement in over 100 ERP selection and implementation projects and over 20 Payroll / HR projects.
In his spare time, Barry likes to enjoy the outdoors, hiking and, in particular, fly fishing.
